Cryptography

I am interested in cryptography and use it on a daily basis to secure websites and communicate securely over electronic mail or chat.

I use GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) to (de)crypt e-mails. It is a free open source alternative to the PGP suite of cryptographic software. My key is 0x00E80E86. You can get it by executing the following command (on Linux):

gpg --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key 00E80E86

I am also using CAcert that issues free public key certificates to the public (unlike other certificate authorities which are commercial and sell certificates). I am a CAcert assurer.

I have also qualified as Thawte assurer. Thawte Consulting is a certificate authority (CA) for X.509 certificates. Thawte has stopped its Web Of Trust in 2008.

I have organised four cryptography meetings, these happened in Salzburg & Munich 2002, MIND in Postojna 2007 and VCFE in Munich 2008. If you plan to organise a larger event, I can help you to organise a keysigning party. I can also assure you if you are in the surrounding area (Ljubljana), just contact me.

Some cryptography plugins, which I am using are:

  • Enigmail - is a security extension to Mozilla Thunderbird and Seamonkey. It integrates the renowned OpenPGP standard provided by GnuPG.
  • Irssi off the record plugin. It crypts your IRC conversation.
  • Pidgin off the record plugin. Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.

Here is an example of Wotsap analysis path from my key (00E80E86) to Linus Torvalds key (A86B35C5), Richard Matthew Stallman's key (135EA668) or current rank leader Peter Palfrader's key (94C09C7F).
