  • 23 Sep - All servers now have dual stack (IPv4/IPv6) installed. Test and report if you find any issues.

Setting up IPv6 address for IRC usage works like this:

# /sbin/ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:30:05:d4:b2:c8
          inet addr:62.75.255.124  Bcast:0.0.0.0  Mask:255.255.255.255
          inet6 addr: 2001:470:1f0b:86f::402/128 Scope:Global
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:514978352 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:539909937 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:2710550256 (2.5 GiB)  TX bytes:1741772379 (1.6 GiB)
          Interrupt:9 Base address:0xe000

Look for the address in the inet6 section. Next, Set your IPv6 address inside irssi client

# irssi
  • Inside irssi
/set hostname 2001:470:1f0b:86f::402
  • Connect to IPv6 capable IRC server
/connect -6 irc.ipv6.freenode.net
