Howto Run a Bouncer on the Shell

1. Login via ssh 2. run "znc --makeconf" in the shell

Now a dialog will appear, asking you about the settings

>>What port would you like ZNC to listen on? (1 to 65535):

Choose a port that is not in use. This is the port that you'll be connecting to when accessing the bouncer

>>Would you like ZNC to listen using SSL? (yes/no) [no]:

No

>>Listen Host (Blank for all ips):

Just hit enter

>>Do you want to load any global modules? (yes/no):

no

>>Username (AlphaNumeric):

Choose your Username you want to have on IRC

>>Enter Password: >>[ ?? ] Confirm Password:

Enter a new password twice. Choose it wisely.

The next few questions can be skipped hitting enter

>>Do you want to automatically load any user modules for this user? (yes/no):

no

>>IRC server (host only):

Enter your preferred IRC network, for instance irc.efnet.org

>>[irc.efnet.org] Port (1 to 65535) [6667]:

Enter the port for that IRC network, e.g. 6667

>>[irc.efnet.org] Password (probably empty):

You probably have to leave this empty

>>Does this server use SSL? (probably no) (yes/no) [no]:

Self explanatory

>>Would you like to add another server? (yes/no) [no]:

no

>>Would you like to add a channel for ZNC to automatically join? (yes/no) [yes]:

no

>>Would you like to setup another user? (yes/no) [no]:

no

[ ok ] Writing config [/home/buchinho/.znc/configs/znc.conf]... [ ** ] [ ** ] To connect to this znc you need to connect to it as your irc server [ ** ] using the port that you supplied. You have to supply your login info [ ** ] as the irc server password like so.. user:pass. [ ** ] [ ** ] Try something like this in your IRC client... [ ** ] /server <znc_server_ip> 2345 adfljk:<pass> [ ** ]

>>Launch znc now? (yes/no) [yes]:

no, because it doesn't run by itself

Now we are done. You have to start znc in command line and it'll run in the background.

If you want to connect to it, use the command given by znc in the final statement.
